Lemon Fault Line Cake

While technically not summer yet, our little heat wave in SoCal last week got my mind on one of my favorite things - lemons! Summer time always gets me in the mood for this tart, puckery gem. Lemonade, lemon tarts, lemon chicken…mmm, lemon chicken…must make that this week…

Today I wanted to make a classic lemon cake with a not so classic design; a fault line cake. I love how the lemon slices peak through the ‘fault line’, giving a pop of color. Inside this pretty little package is a moist lemon-orange butter cake with lemon swiss meringue buttercream. Fresh citrus zest and juice turn this simple butter cake into a perfect summer dessert. All we need is a backyard BBQ party….hmm, maybe next year…
