Breakfast ~ Turned Up a Notch!

Remember the olden days when you ‘d run out of the house in the morning, late for work with no time for breakfast? So you’d either go through one of the zillion drive-thru’s for a fast meal or you’d reach for the conveniently foil-packed pastry…man, I miss 2019! Nowadays, our commute consists of moving from the bed to the couch and, I’m just guessing here, there’s no drive-thru in the hallway. We’re stuck making breakfast again!

This week I wanted to take a look at those ‘convenient’ breakfast options and see if we could make a better (and not conveniently fast) versions of our favorites…

Pop Tarts

I know, I know….why go to all the effort to make pop tarts when we can just grab a box at the store in a few minutes for less than $5? My sister would say because I’m a show off (she may be a little right) but really, I do it for the challenge.

Let’s start with the fillings - fresh strawberry compote with lemon and blood orange juices and cinnamon-sugar mix with a hint of nutmeg. These yummy fillings are enrobed in a light, buttery, flaky pastry dough; just look at those layers! Of course, it wouldn’t be a pop tart without the classic frosting and sprinkles on top.

These were so worth the effort and can’t wait to make them again. What is your go-to flavor?
